Villa Paradise Resort b&b is located near the Amalfi Coast, on the upper part of the coast and overlooking the Path of the Gods that goes from Agerola to Positano, the wonderful place that the ancient inhabitants believed had been torn from paradise. In it the Greek colonists recognised their homeland: the high, jagged coastline, the islets and rocks, the landings, the mountain peaks enveloped in soft clouds. For thousands of years, the people who live on this enchanting coastline have been sailors in the summer and farmers in the winter, and the upper part of the territory has been transformed over the centuries into terraces cultivated with vines, olive trees and citrus fruits.
The local cuisine is rich in delicious dishes that meet the vegetables, fruit and wild herbs of this magical land. Agerola, with its luxuriant woods, supplied the Amalfi Republic, the oldest of the Maritime Republics, with precious timber for its fleet for centuries. The connections between the sea and the mountains, the millenary mule-tracks, are today a desired destination for visitors from all over the world. Many of these paths can be found in the pages that writers and artists have dedicated to Agerola and which have inspired the path of historical memory and the names of the rooms at Villa Paradise Resort b&b. Below are the links to the paths marked out by the CAI, for all those who wish to deepen their knowledge of these wonderful places.

Nature trails through the Amalfi Coast and the Monti Lattari Park in Agerola
The "Hall of the Gods", which welcomes our guests with its tasty breakfasts, is also a comfortable sitting room for relaxing moments. Its name is inspired by the Path of the Gods, which can be reached just a few metres from the hotel. This world-famous path is said to have been trodden by Greek gods who came to the aid of Ulysses to protect him from the seductive song of the Sirens. The bewitching mythological creatures dwelled on the Li Galli archipelago, and their call was irresistible to sailors, just as this strip of paradise is still irresistible today: the silhouette of Capri, with its stacks, emerges from the sinuous profile of Punta Campanella; the folds of the coast conceal the view of Positano; Praiano is revealed with the white clusters of its houses clinging to the coast. It seems natural, then, that the ancient settlers chose this path as a place of worship for their deities, overlooked by the suggestive Monte Tre Pizzi, whose peaks, sometimes shrouded in vaporous clouds, emerged to their gaze as the Olympus of their homeland. With its heady scents of myrtle, a plant sacred to Venus, and orange blossoms, the golden notes of lemons, the caves, the ravines, the Path of the Gods has been praised in the verses of many famous poems.

THE PATH OF ABU TABELA
The names of the rooms at Villa Paradise are inspired by artists, writers and personalities from Agerola's historical and cultural memory.
Abu Tabela is a deformation of the surname Avitabile, the name still used today to remember General Paolo Avitabile in Afghanistan. The "Stella d'Oriente" (Eastern Star) room is dedicated to this illustrious personage, since the General's personal symbol was the five-pointed star that decorated "the stone at the top of the entrance door of his palace and the gratings of the loggias of his rooms". The General, born in Agerola on 25 October 1791, obtained numerous honours and riches during his military career, particularly in Persia and India. When he returned to the Bourbon Kingdom of the Two Sicilies in 1843, he had his marvellous castle built on the hill of Bel Sito, in San Lazzaro, a charming village in Agerola. From this hillock he majestically dominated the whole of the wonderful Amalfi Coast. Agerola is remembered, in particular, for having imported a jersey cow from the United Kingdom, received as a gift from Queen Victoria. From the crossbreeding of this cow with half-breeds of Bruna Alpina and Podolica the Agerola cow was born; from the processing of the exceptional milk of this precious cow the famous fior di latte di Agerola and the tasty Provolone del Monaco D.O.P. are obtained.

BETWEEN THE PAGES OF EMILIO SCAGLIONE'S 'IL PASSO DEL DIAVOLO': PATHS BETWEEN THE AMALFI COAST AND THE PARK OF THE LATTARI MOUNTAINS
The room "Oceano di Sole" was born from the pages of the book by Emilio Scaglione: journalist and director of the Neapolitan editorial office of "Il Mondo", author in 1929 of "Il passo del Diavolo", a novel wonderfully set in Agerola. In its pages, the writer captures all the beauty of these places, between the enchantment of the sea, the coast and the luxuriant nature of the hinterland, making for a reading full of intense emotions: villages, ancient traditions, paths, to which the author restores, in the novel, their natural and authentic poetry.
In the book there are many paths, nowadays traced by the CAI, such as the Via Maestra dei Villaggi, from Amalfi to the belvedere of San Lazzaro, an ancient flight of steps that Mauro, a sailor and the protagonist of the book, follows to sell his catch in Agerola. Along the Path of the Knights of Amalfi, from Agerola to Gragnano, you can admire part of the 10th-century Castle of Pino, with the recently restored Church of Santa Maria di Pino. At the end of the novel we find one of the steps (because of its particular shape it resembled a paw, attributed to a devil's footprint by popular belief), which were used in ancient times as a link between the peaks of Monte Tre Pizzi. Emilio Scaglione chose it as the title of his book.

THE AMALFI COAST AND THE JOY OF AGEROLA BETWEEN THE LINES OF GUIDO PIOVENE
From 1953 to 1956, the writer and journalist Guido Piovene undertook a region-by-region 'Journey through Italy', encapsulating in the pages of a book his reportage, consisting of careful and precise descriptions and reflections on cities, towns and places in post-war Italy. His book 'Viaggio in Italia' was a success, also narrated on the radio on behalf of RAI. Guido Piovene wrote, in a euphoric and cheerful tone, of his passage through Agerola, emphasising the bonhomie of its inhabitants. The name of the room 'Costa Romantica' at Villa Paradise was inspired by the writer's warm description of the stretch of coast it overlooks: 'The coast from Sorrento to Salerno is medieval, romantic, monastic. It was, in fact, a romantic love!"

SILENCE, NATURE, MYSTERY IN THE VERSES OF ROBERTO BRACCO
Agerola has the natural shape of a theatre, modelled by time and man, and with its marvellous scenery has inspired writers and composers. The great writer, journalist and playwright, Roberto Bracco stayed in Agerola for several years. During his stay in 1908 he wrote his ground-breaking masterpiece "Il Piccolo Santo" (The Little Saint), a work that deals with a careful psychological study of the characters, setting it in this pleasant valley dominated by the imposing pyramidal mountain of Tre Pizzi.
"...among these steep, solitary paths that climb towards the sky, among these rocks that have human colours and that look and move in the shadows of the night and speak the mysterious words of echoes..." Roberto Bracco
